If you're only going to have one major hit in your lifetime, make it a multi-million global selling classic.
That's exactly what Scott McKenzie did in 1967 - in the 'Summer of Love'. 'San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear
Some Flowers In Your Hair)' was the anthem of a generation, preaching peace, love and good times.
It was written and produced by John Phillips of Mamas & Papas, specifically for his friend McKenzie to sing.
John and fellow group members Denny Doherty and Michelle Phillips also supplied handclaps on a track
played by the cream of American musicians, including drummer Hal Blaine.
The original stereo 'Voice Of Scott McKenzie' album is now augmented by the Mono single versions of the
45s drawn from the set, plus both sides of McKenzie's 1968 seven inch outing, 'Holy Man', after which
Scott went to live in the desert.
He later joined a revamped Mamas & Papas line-up himself in the mid-1980s, and toured with them for
fifteen years, nightly still performing 'San Francisco' to packed houses.
