LPCDreissues: Looking forward to the past

The first two volumes of this classic label story have been very well received and this final chapter maintains the high quality of the material.

There are four more "from the vaults" tracks for the completists and great obscurities that most collectors will have never heard.

The Larks' and Bettye Swann's dancers are great to hear in the context of a compilation CD and the highly-rated Bobby Angelle's three contributions are superb.

Modern soul fans will enjoy the Eddie Horan, Pat Livingston and Delilah Moore tracks and that era's male soul group aficionados will be knocked out by the Choice Of Color's previously unissued track.

The Filmore Street Soul Rebellion, Hank Jacobs & The TKOs and Don Julian & The Larks provide funky jazz-soul instrumentals for the dancers, while there are early Rhythm & Soul sides from The Question Marks and Tommy & Eddie.

The CD represents all the strands of west coast black music through soul's greatest era."
