The Id was an unique Los Angeles studio musician project. The members of the group were all playing with other popular groups, but, came as friends together to rehearse, develop, and build the album. In July/August of 1966 Jerry Cole, Don Dexter, Norm & Glenn Cass recorded the "Inner Sounds of the ID" album which was released in January of 1967 - just when the renaissance in popular music had begun. The band "The Id", was featured in a full-page advertisement in Billboard Magazine in January of 1967, and to promote the album, the executive producer of the group wanted to debut the band in Chicago and they played there for three weeks. Things did not work out, the band returned to Los Angeles and the musicians went their separate ways. The band felt they should have better gone to San Francisco, which was more open for "modern", experimental sound. The single, titled "Short Circuit" along with the title cut, "The Id" and "Boil the Kettle Mother" a garage classic, became popular on undergound radio stations in L.A. in the late 1960s. Billboard gave the song "Short Circuit" a Bullet and very favourable reviews. "The Inner Sounds of the Id" album features rock music with oriental influences, played in various time signatures like 17/8, 20/8, and 7/4 time, as well as straight-ahead blues/rock in 4/4 time. You will hear the rock and roll roots drifting into garage, beat, psychedelic and progressive sounds - powerful and unique - far ahead of its time. The title track, longer than 10 minutes, you will never forget. It is an excursion, introducing the upcoming hypnotic beat and psychedelic sound, a cosmic sitar and meditative vocals intensify the mystical and floating vibrations of the music, coming from the ID´s inner space. The Beatles with "Sgt. Pepper", Beach Boys with "Smile" and also the "Rolling Stones" with "Their Satanic Majesties Request" went into similar directions. This well produced stereo CD/2-LP set contains extended musician information, (a second LP) contains 10 bonus tracks with outtakes from the album recording sessions. This is an ultimately rewarding listening experience on highest level of creativity and musicianship.
