After leaving Soft Machine, Robert Wyatt formed a new progressive rock band in 1971. He playfully named it Matching Mole (Machine Mulle is French for Soft Machine). With the help of Caravan's David Sinclair, Phil Miller (Hatfield and the North, National Health) and Bill MacCormick (Quiet Sun), the band got its first line-up and created one of the most important formations of the flourishing Canterbury scene. The band put out two studio albums in total, both in 1972. The first being the self-titled Matching Mole. In 2012, an expanded edition was released on CD, but never appeared on vinyl.
